Curriculum
Curriculum Intent
Our curriculum is designed to nurture the development of the whole child, providing opportunities for academic, social and emotional growth. We are committed to supporting all children, including those with SEND, by creating an inclusive environment where every child can thrive.
We strive to ensure early identification of need in order to prevent gaps in knowledge from forming to enable every child to reach their full potential. Building on each child’s starting points, we create an approach that inspires a love of learning and supports personal growth.
We teach a discrete, bespoke curriculum which is ambitious, broad and balanced and fulfils the requirements of the National Curriculum. Subject leaders ensure that knowledge is thoughtfully selected and sequenced so that concepts build over time, enabling all pupils to know more, remember more and develop understanding. Focusing on both knowledge and skills, our spiral curriculum ensures progressive content across subjects, revisiting key concepts to strengthen and deepen understanding. Retrieval practice is used to help children retain and apply knowledge over time.
Considering the diverse needs of our school community, we aim to broaden children's wider experience of the world through enriching opportunities that complement and enhance our curriculum offer. These experiences aim to build confidence and deepen their engagement with learning. Our curriculum celebrates our local heritage, particularly through the study of the rich history of Folkestone and surrounding areas. We work to foster good links with the local community, enriching learning through real-life connections.
Above all, we want to inspire every child to become a lifelong learner, confident in their abilities, resilient in the face of challenges, proud of their community and ready for the next stage in their learning journey.
