Design and Technology

Curriculum Intent

Our Design and Technology curriculum has been designed to nurture the development of the whole child and to equip our children with the knowledge and skills to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world using the skills, knowledge and language of design and technology confidently. Our curriculum has been designed to engage and challenge all pupils, including those with SENd, whilst fulfilling National Curriculum requirements.

Our Design and Technology pedagogy has been developed to promote units of work as real-life problem-solving sequences that will involve all children taking risks, thinking critically and fostering enjoyment in designing and making things. Pedagogy, from Reception to Year 6, follows an explicit process of planning, designing, making and evaluating, ensuring children retain a depth of knowledge through planned, sequenced retrieval activities.

To inspire our children, we have created activities to delve into the world of historical and current famous designers, to encourage pupils to see they too have the skills to contribute to future design advancements.

Ultimately, our curriculum and pedagogy intent is to provide potential pathways for our children’s way forward in the world, regardless of personal circumstances. We relish shaping the manufacturers and entrepreneurs of the future by igniting our pupils’ curiosity and fascination with the design and development, construction and evaluation of products undertaken by themselves and designers out in the wider world.
